why:Mr. Huffman opened a karate school in Holts Summit, MO in 2000. Children ages 8-18 began arriving at his door wanting to learn martial arts. Many were from broken homes, had behavioral problems or had already been in trouble with police. Some children couldn't afford instruction fees but were still admitted to class. Karate training quickly made a difference. The freely-admitted children began developing greater self-confidence. They learned to respect others and began improving in school and behaving on the streets. As a result of this success, Mr. Huffman began the Children's Community Martial Arts Foundation (CCMAF) which provides martial arts training to "Kids for Free". CCMAF's karate school currently provides karate instruction to underprivileged and disabled children as well as troubled youth in the Holts Summit, Columbia, and Jefferson City areas of Missouri. | . | ![]() |
